An investigation by The Chauncey Bailey Project has found that Sgt. Derwin Longmire, the lead detective assigned to investigate Chauncey Bailey’s slaying, is a supporter of Your Black Muslim Bakery and has failed to document that he has analyzed evidence of the bakery CEO’s possible involvement in the murder. The detective has also interfered for bakery CEO Yusuf Bey IV in two other felony cases, according to the Project’s investigation.

Chauncey Bailey Project questions veracity of police investigation

On Sunday, the Chauncey Bailey Project will report that Yusuf Bey IV, the former head of the now-defunct Your Black Muslim Bakery, played a larger role in the Aug. 2, 2007, killing of Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey than previously known. The project also will report that Sgt. Derwin Longmire, the lead investigator in Bailey’s killing, never documented in his case notes key evidence linking Bey IV to deeper involvement in the crime.

Broussard trial delayed until February

Superior Court judge on Friday said the murder trial of Devaughndre Broussard, charged in killing journalist Chauncey Bailey, will likely start in February. He scheduled another hearing for Dec. 12 when he said he hoped a specific date could be set.
