Kristin Bender

Kristin Bender has been a professional journalist for 15 years and won several of awards for her reporting and writing. She has worked at the Oakland Tribune for eight years, covering city governments, breaking news, education and investigative stories out of Berkeley, Alameda and Oakland. She has also freelanced for Maxim, the environmental magazine E, Life & Style, Star, Bay Area Parent and She is a graduate of the San Francisco State School of Journalism, and started her career at the Concord Transcript, a Contra Costa Times weeky.

Bender wrote Chauncey Bailey’s obituary, possibly one of her most difficult assignments to date. She worked with Bailey for five years and played softball with him for several seasons on the award-winning Oakland Tribune Newshounds. They miss his drive — in both fields.
