A veteran of the alternative weeklies, A.C. Thompson spent nine years writing for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and SF Weekly. He received the 2005 George Polk award for Local Reporting for a string of stories documenting abysmal conditions in San Francisco’s public housing developments.

He is co-author of Torture Taxi: On the Trail of the CIA’s Rendition Flights (Melville House 2006), the first book about the agency’s secret program to transport suspected terrorists to other countries and brutalize them. His work on the Chauncey Bailey Project has been supported by New America Media and the Bay Area News Group. In early June 2008, he joined the New York-based ProPublica, a non-profit newsroom producing journalism in the public interest, supported entirely by philanthropy.
