Chauncey Bailey Project

Joshua Bey

Joshua Bey, 19, is a younger half-brother of bakery CEO Yusuf Bey IV, and one of more than 40 children that Your Black Muslim Bakery patriarch Yusuf ALI Bey fathered with many wives and some teens under his care.

Joshua Bey broke ranks with the family during a preliminary hearing in February 2008, when he pleaded guilty for his role in the May 2007 kidnapping and torture of two women in Oakland, the same case for which Yusuf Bey IV was charged. The plea bargain gave him three years in prison instead of facing a life sentence in exchange for his testimony against his half-brothers Yusuf Bey IV and Yusuf Bey V, and bakery members Tamon Halfin and Richard Allen.

Joshua Bey was among several family and bakery members arrested in an Aug. 3 raid on Your Black Muslim Bakery in connection with the kidnapping case. It came just one day after Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey was gunned down near his office.

Joshua Bey’s mother, identified only as Jane Doe 2, was one of four women whose charges formed the basis for the 2002 arrest of Yusuf Ali Bey on allegations of rape and sexual abuse over 20 years. The senior Bey died IN 2003 before he could go to trial.
